Dangerous Evidence (Berkley True Crime)
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (May, 1995)
Authors: Ellis A. Cohen, Milton J. Shapiro, and Milton J. Shapioe
Average review score:

There was a lot erroneous information in the book!
I thought Ms Jackson the civil rights activist pursuit of the truth was honorable; however, the author was way off base. I was at the Quantico Criminal Investigation Division at the time of this incident, and I am BLACK. My name was even mentioned in the book. As a matter of fact Lindsey Scott worked for me. This was not a racist plot to courts-martial and convict him. I don't know if he committed this crime or not; however, the NIS and Military Police did what they should have done. There may have been some errors in the investigation, but it was not racist. There were many other black assigned to the Military Police during that time other than Lindsey. This book's display of the accounts that happened during this investigation are so far from the truth, it is pathetic. Raymond W. Collier Criminal Investigator, USMC

Investigative reporting at its worst
It is apparent by the misrepresentation of fact, the selective interviewing, and the ignorance of standard law enforcement procedure that Mr. Cohen's account of the Lyndsie Scott case is a skewed and inaccurate portrayal of the truth.

An eye opening look at the Military "Justice" System
I found the story enthralling and it has given me a new insight in to the so-called Military Justice System. By the end of the book, I felt I really "knew" these people. While the main focus was the injustice done to Marine Lindsey Scott, civil rights activist Lori Jackson, also featured in the book, was truly an inspirational woman. I look forward to the movie! Author Ellis Cohen is to be commended for such a well written account of this amazing story

Nicole Kidman: The Biography
Published in Hardcover by Aurum Pr Ltd (October, 2002)
Authors: Lucy Ellis and Bryony Sutherland
Average review score:

Patchwork of existing articles
I agree with inpip below, that this is an extremely dissatisfying and, in places, a factually inaccurate book. Nicole Kidman was never consulted by the biographers and all that she says or does in the book has been gleaned from articles in Vogue, Variety, etc. Being an admirer of Nicole's unsettling and haunting work in Eyes Wide Shut, The Others, The Hours, To Die For and The Portrait .., I was extremely disappointed to find that very little is said about the fact that she is, at the core, a thinking character actress and not really a garden-variety Hollywood star. This is what makes her art unusual and separates her from, say, Julia Roberts or Meg Ryan.

Lack of research
I recently purchesed this book and was extremly disapointed to find things that weren't true.A one point it states 'Anne asks her mother when her father will return and Nicole as Grace replies"Daddy isn't coming home.you'll find out soon enough this place isn't always a happy home."' When actually Nicolase asks 'when's Daddy coming home' to which Nicole then says when the war is over. She tells the servent first arrive she 'you'll find out soon enough this place isn't always a happy home.'

I also found that in the book it quotes Anne Robinson to saying 'that looks like a twitch' at Nicoles attempt to imitate Anne, but actually Nicole makes that comment about herself.
The aurthors showed no compassion to writing this book and there only driving force seemed to be the money.I found this book mostly disatifying and was saddened because Nicole Kidman is my favourite actress, this book doesn't do her justice.so enless you are a complete fan don't even bother reading this book!

A Great Biography
This book, based on the life on Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, is an excellant read for a fan or anyone who just lies biographies. It's informational and spans over the brilliant actress's career from the start. A must read.

World Cultures: Global Mosaic
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (K-12) (May, 2000)
Authors: Ahmad, Brodsky, Crofts, and Ellis
Average review score:

The worst
This book is to put it plainly, horrible. It lightly brushes over topics with out going even slightly deeper in to them, and seems to be a collection of texts from old history/geography text books. You don't learn much about culture here.

What's worse is the teacher resource kits and the worksheets/tests provided. They don't get students to "think", and instead seem to emphasize on memorizing information.

Definately NOT recommended, especially not for high school.

Doesn't belong in a high school
I am currently a junior in an advanced placement history class, and my freshman year this book was my text for a supposedly accelerated class. The book is incomprehensive and the analysis of important historical concepts is poor. The book spends a paragraph on covering communism. The entire textbook only has one paragraph on communism! It is a wonderful text for middle school students; however, it does not belong in my high school, or any other for that matter.

Great Reference!
This is an amazing text on the culture and geography of the world! There is an introductory unit, Africa unit (which I am on), South Asia, Southeast Asia; Australia; and Oceania, and many others. It really helps you understand it clearly. It is a great text to refer to if you have any questions about culture and geography. In each unit there is a section on the geography and early histry, a seciton on the heritage, and a section about the place in transitition, and it in the world today, if I remember correctly. Wow!

Fundamentals of Data Structures in C
Published in Hardcover by W H Freeman & Co. (September, 1992)
Authors: Ellis Horowitz, Sartaj Sahni, and Susan Anderson-Freed
Average review score:

Just overall difficult to go through
This book gets way too caught up in mathematical terminology and offers too few actual code examples. Most of the code examples consist of showing the format of the class they want you to write with comments telling you what the code would do if they actually had any in there. Granted the authors are dealing with concepts in the book, but I always find it easier to grasp a concept with full working examples to tear apart.

Aside from that, the book is extremely dry and difficult to read because the text is so boring. It's worse than reading a text on mathematics.

Speaking of mathematics, this book will totally swamp anyone who doesn't have a strong algebra background. The authors assume that the reader uses fairly complex algebraic equations regularly. I'm pretty good with algebra, but a little out of practice since I've been concentrating on my job and learning C++. I find myself spending almost as much time figuring out what their equations mean as I do learning the concepts they're trying to describe.

I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Algorithm source be die..
I learned various algorithme in the Fundamentals of Data Structures in C. In my efforts, it's too difficult. So I want more sources. For textbook, it's very good book. But it's too hard to stuy alone. Specially Red-black tree....

A Book that covers almost all fundamental Data Structures
An excellent book for a student who has a fundamental knowledge of programming in C/C++ and Mathematics as well. The font of printing needs to be enlarged a little bit.

The Essentials of French (Essentials)
Published in Paperback by Research & Education Assn (July, 1996)
Authors: Miriam Ellis and Research & Education Association
Average review score:

Not good at all
I was very disappointed in this book. Basically, anybody who knows the basic grammar rules of French could write it. The explanations are very brief, not clear, no exercises at all,I regret I bought it.

Cogent basics
This is an excellent companion to a text for beginning student. Its concise and cogent, with brief examples for illustration. I'd give it 5 stars is it was a tad more through and had a comprehensive index.

Fundamentals of Data Structures

Authors: Ellis Horowitz and Sartaj Sahni
Average review score:

A dull, difficult read
This book was the prescribed textbook for my data structures course. Reading it, however, was a very unpleasant experience. I found most of the discussions long, digressive and pedantic and of a nature that made you wonder after reading two pages what it was that the author started out to say in the first place. However, one plus point is that the algorithms are written in a simple enough pseudocode, and not in C or Pascal. But even so, the algorithms tend to be like the text - too notation-intensive and very difficult to follow. For example, the author, pedantically, wants to write an iterative version of the Inorder tree traversal algorithm - and succeeds after 3 ugly tries. A display that is hardly useful or enjoyable, especially for the beginning student. More mentally exhausting and undecipherable algorithms are found in the chapter on internal sorting. The level of the exercises is way too high, especially since the text does not cover fundamentals well. My advice to people starting to learn data structures would be to stay away from this book. I sincerely hope that there are other books that one can learn data structures from.

I used this book in college...
It was the main textbook in one of my CS courses and I thought it was great. In fact, over the years, just about every company I've worked has had a copy lying around for reference. I think that says a lot.

Passionate Sage
Published in Audio Cassette by Blackstone Audiobooks (July, 1995)
Authors: Joseph J. Ellis, Tom Parker, and Timothy Parker
Average review score:

Author invented his Vietnam war experience,Why?
The book seemed OK , until I discovered that Mr. Ellis had invented his experience as a Vietnam Vet . If somebody does this, what's the value of the book?

If you have skipped over one of our major "Founding Fathers"
John Adams, you may want to consider Joseph Ellis's fine work, "Passionate Sage". Mr. Ellis does not dwell on Adams childhood or early years & that is fine. Not really that extraordinary for his time. Adams biggest problem was & is that he has never had the armies of p.r. men that have promoted Washington, Franklin & Jefferson thru the years. Adams knew this yet respected & envied them. He also knew his intellectual gifts surpassed the big three of the revolutionary generation. His integrity & forthrightness made him a most disagreeable person. He rationalized his unpopularity, feeling that virtue with fame is no virtue at all. His unpleasantness mellowed in his later years but not his brillant mind. In their last 14 years he pursued a lively correspondence with Thomas Jefferson. This may be his best legacy.

Practical Usage of Ispf Dialog Manager (Ellis Horwood Series in Computers and Their Applications)
Published in Hardcover by Ellis Horwood Ltd (October, 1989)
Author: Anthony S. Rudd
Average review score:

Definitely not for the novice.
The synopsis in you advertisement says this book is for the novice. The book does not even tell one how to create a basic panel. It apparently is a handy reference for someone who is already well verse in the use of ISPF DIALOG MANAGER. Rather expensive book for no more knowledge than it imparts.

This book is excellent for ISPF application development.
This is the best book on ISPF I have ever used, including the IBM manuals as far as developing ISPF applications with REXX or CLIST. Other ISPF books contain pages and pages of screen prints you could simply see for yourself on the computer. Practical usage of ISPF showed me quickly and easily how to use ISPF skeletons, tables , and ISPF library management services within an application. These are features that are so poorly explained in the manuals I could not implement then until I read this book. It does assume you know some basics of ISPF, but it is an excellent bridge from the basics to more advanced topics.

College Algebra
Published in Hardcover by HBJ College & School Division (June, 1986)
Authors: Robert Ellis and Denny Gulick
Average review score:

I cannot believe how much I paid for this book!
Sullivan's "College Algebra" is a mish-mash of material, very little of which has any relevance to the questions at the end of each section. I am extremely upset that my university changed to this text, as it is vastly inferior to our previous book. There are no examples of key points that are needed to complete homework. What explanations that are available are hard to decipher, much less understand. This text should not be allowed to be used in any classroom, college or high school.

A good start...
This book covers algebra very well. It is a simple, easy to understand text that most students seem to be able to grasp. It's main attribute is that it treats college algebra simply and does not scare students away. This book is also a good place to start if you are attempting to self teach.

awesome service
order was not shipped the same day, so seller gave me a discount and I still received the book pretty quick. Great customer service. The book is in mint condition.

Sid Meier's Civilization III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (November, 2001)
Author: David Ellis
Average review score:

Expanded Instruction Manual - Little Strategy
I bought this manual hoping to quickly get up to speed with the new game. I knew enough to play at the more basic levels but wanted tips on how to improve my playing level. What I found in this book was a nicely complete instruction manual, and very little in the way of strategies, tips, etc.

While I did read the book cover to cover and learned a few rules and features that I was unaware of beforehand, it did little to improve my level of play. This is a very complex game, and knowing a few basic tips/tricks can be immensely helpful. Most of the tricks I've learned came from extensive playing (it's easy to get [pulled] into this game) and message boards online - Yahoo groups, civfanatics, etc.

If you have money to burn and want a comprehensive instruction manual buy this book. If you are looking to improve your level of play, you won't find it here.

Knowlegeable Civ players must pass on this
This guide is only for those people who don't know the difference between a spearman and a warrior, or for those who get eliminated while playing the Chieftain level, which isn't an easy feat.

Otherwise, it does the job it's supposed to.

Good Information
Gives you a lot of information in tables and charts. Well orgainzed and easy to reference. Has some helpful hints and clues to make the game easier to learn. It is NOT going to help you WIN. You have to think and reason on your own to accomplish this on your own ability. Use the brain GOD gave you and say thanks. Great Game and Great Information Book.
